What is NattyNote?

NattyNote is a Chrome extension that lets you take time-stamped notes while watching YouTube videos. Simply press Alt+P, write your note, and see your timestamped notes at the bottom of the video. You can also take snapshots with the Shift key and customize shortcuts.

With this extension you can take time-stamped notes while watching YouTube videos. Press Alt+P, the video will stop playing, a prompt will show up, write your note and press Alt+Enter. Your timestamped notes will appear at the bottom of the video. Hit the Shift key with the previous commands to take a snapshot! You can find more shortcuts and customize them.

I've tried 8 other youtube note-taking plugins, from the most simple to the most complex, and this is the one I settled on. Even the paid plugins lacked what I wanted. Customizable hotkeys, is for me, a must. Being able to view all of the videos I have created notes for is also a must. An quick and easy way to export to markdown (for Obsidian integration) was a must. This checks all the boxes for basic functionality. No, it doesn't do everything I want. It doesn't support automated caption inserts into notes. It doesn't have a dictation feature. It doesn't allow me to move the notes pane to the left or right of the video element, to help me maximize real estate on my ultrawide monitor. But it works, it's quick, it's reliable, and it has the most important features.
