User reviews
ShiftEdit is appreciated for its FTP/SFTP support, usefulness on Chromebooks, and responsive developers. However, many users find the extension misleading due to its paywall after a trial, difficulties uninstalling it from Google Drive, limited FTP upload capabilities, and slow performance. The free version is discontinued, which frustrates users expecting a no-cost option. Overall, it suits quick remote edits but has usability and pricing concerns reported by multiple users.
Pros
- Supports FTP/SFTP connections for remote editing
- Works well for quick edits on Chromebooks when standalone apps aren't available
- Developer is responsive and helpful
- Integration with Google Drive works to some extent
- Provides a free trial period
Cons
- Requires payment after trial, with no free version, which users find misleading
- Difficult or impossible to uninstall or remove from Google Drive according to multiple users
- Files cannot be uploaded directly to FTP, limiting functionality
- Takes a long time to launch with a poor user interface
- Some users complain about it hijacking file associations and requesting personal information

I actually have not used this yet, but it seems pretty solid, I am setting it up at the moment, I got it to work using my own ftp, but my goal is to use it for school projects and thats on this email, and I don't want my classmates having access to my FTP so I have to set it up for gmail, I don't know why all of you are so mad, I will judge if its worth paying for later, but for even a trial period its free and thats more than enough.
