Kokoro Reader Firefox

Kokoro Reader

A powerful Text-to-Speech reader for Kokoro-FastAPI. Listen to articles and selections with high-quality AI voices. Features Dark Mode, a new Voice Mixer, and long-form audio downloading. Forked from Kokoro TTS Sender by Fooftilly.

Features & Capabilities

Kokoro Reader is a feature-rich interface for the Kokoro-FastAPI local Text-to-Speech engine. It allows you to send articles, highlighted text, or entire web pages to be read aloud using the incredibly realistic Kokoro TTS model running on your local machine.

This extension is an advanced fork of the original Kokoro TTS Sender created by Fooftilly (and originally Peroniko). It has been reverse-engineered and enhanced with a focus on usability, aesthetics, and long-form content support.

🌟 New Features in this Version:

  • Dark Mode UI: A completely redesigned, eye-friendly dark interface for the player and settings.
  • Smart Voice Mixer: Easily combine multiple voices (e.g., 50% Sarah + 50% Nicole) using a new chip-based interface—no manual writing/coding required.
  • Floating Action Button: A convenient button appears when you select text for instant reading.
  • Global Shortcuts: Use Alt+K to Play/Pause, Alt+R to read the current article, and Alt + , and Alt + . for backward and forward functionalities.
🚀 How to Use:
  1. Install Kokoro-FastAPI: This extension requires the Kokoro-FastAPI server running locally (usually via Docker on port 8880).
  2. Select Text: Highlight any text and click the floating icon (or right-click -> "Send to Kokoro TTS").
  3. Read Articles: Press Alt+R to automatically detect and read the main content of a page.
  4. Mix Voices: Open the extension popup to mix voices and adjust speed/volume.
