Kill Sticky is a handy Chrome extension designed to enhance your web browsing by eliminating annoying floating elements, such as sticky headers and pop-ups, that block the content you're trying to view. By removing these distractions, it allows for a cleaner and more focused reading experience. Inspired by Alisdair McDiarmid's bookmarklet, Kill Sticky brings this functionality directly to your browser with ease.

Compatible with Firefox for Android and accessible via the browser's menu, Kill Sticky simplifies interaction with websites cluttered by persistent headers or overlays. Whether you want to declutter your news feed, blogs, or any web page, this extension offers a user-friendly tool to kill off sticky elements quickly.

User Reviews

Users appreciate Kill Sticky as a simple and effective add-on that removes sticky overlays and pop-ups on webpages, enhancing readability on both desktop and Android Firefox. The add-on is praised for its ease of use and developer responsiveness. However, common complaints include the lack of persistent blocking of stickies across page reloads, occasional erratic behavior like freezing page scrolling, and no built-in options to automate or undo sticky removals per site, which users desire for better convenience and control.
Pros
  • Effectively removes annoying sticky pop-ups and overlays, improving webpage readability.
  • Simple to use with a click of the X button to kill sticky elements.
  • Available and functional on Firefox for Android as well as desktop.
  • Lightweight and better than many alternative add-ons that fail to remove sticky elements.
  • Developer responsiveness, added requested features like keyboard shortcut promptly.
Cons
  • Sticky pop-ups reappear upon page reload; no persistent blocking per site currently.
  • No built-in option to automatically kill stickies on specific sites without manual intervention.
  • Reports of erratic behavior such as freezing underlying page or preventing scrolling after removal of sticky.
  • Higher RAM usage reported by some users after extended use.
  • No easy way to revert 'always kill' settings or undo sticky removals without resetting browser or add-on.

Click the X button and WHAM-O dead annoying anything that pop ups or floats when scrolling, I love this addon.

Add a user-settable key-bind and let me drag it off the toolbar and run it from kb or script, and it would be a 5 star. Still pretty darn good and 4 star. Blue sky feature req: Add 2 right-click options "always kill this sticky on this site automatically" and "revoke any allways-kill settings for this page".

Didn't work for me. On finance.yahoo.com it blocks the player on page load, but when you scroll down the page a second time it reappears.
