User reviews

The Mio Robot app receives mixed reviews. While the robot itself is liked for ease of build and basic functions, the app frequently fails to connect reliably or respond consistently. Users highlight the unintuitive need to press and hold buttons for control, limited coding features, and interference caused by audio-based communication. Additionally, poor instructions and limited UI guidance make the experience frustrating, detracting from the robot's educational potential for kids.
Pros
  • Easy to build and suitable for kids around 8 years old.
  • Allows programming via buttons or app, useful for introducing coding concepts to children.
  • The robot itself works fine independently of the app, with sound and LED functions.
  • Offers both real-time control and coding modes, though with limitations.
Cons
  • App connectivity issues; app often fails to connect or control the robot properly.
  • Controls require pressing and holding buttons, which is not intuitive and affects precise control.
  • Audio-based communication causes problems; app plays sounds that interfere with robot communication.
  • Limited functionality in coding mode, only allowing up to 5 blocks or steps, frustrating for users.
  • Poor instructions and unclear UI make usage and connection challenging.

Possible to give a zero? Doesn't connect to robot, doesn't enable any programming, doesn't do anything other than play an irritating tune that apparently is essential for it to work ... although that doesn't matter as it simply is an ineffective waste of an app which when a kid excited to play with something is somewhat a let down to say the least.

It works fine. The app should be explained better - in the Real Time mode you have to press and hold the buttons (something like that)
