User Reviews

User reviews show Hudl Sideline is valuable when it functions, thanks to strong Hudl integration, fast replays, and supportive staff. However, reliability is a major recurring issue, with games missing plays and crashes reported. Feature gaps in data tagging/ODK editing and UX problems like awkward video scrubbing on iOS add frustration. While many teams appreciate the workflow benefits and time savings, the app’s inconsistent performance across devices and games dampens overall satisfaction.
Pros
  • Easy to use and effective when it works.
  • Excellent Hudl integration that streamlines post-game workflow (automatic intercut and upload).
  • Fast replays and flexible viewing options (sideline/end zone, livestream) for coaching staff.
  • Overall support reputation is strong among many users (responsive, expert help).
Cons
  • Reliability is inconsistent; it often fails to work for full games or delivers missing plays and intermittent outages.
  • ODK data tagging and editing are limited; cannot edit ODK after a play or add more data fields.
  • Video scrubbing and iOS gesture navigation can be flaky, making quick navigation through plays difficult.
  • Hardware/parts support and delivery can be slow, and some setups feel overly complex for teams.

Seem like it would be good but I can’t get anyone to send me the parts to fix it. The Chat / AI support is completely worthless I have yet to have it give any help. Email support, responds but doesn’t answer questions. Looking for alternative

I give apps that service coaches/athletes/educators a lot of leeway so I’ve held on off on this review, but the lack of improvement to this app over the past year (or more) is disappointing. My number one complaint of the app (I won’t address the Sideline hardware, which is fairly unimpressive itself), is the video scrubbing. On iPhones for sure, and on some iPads it is almost impossible to fast forward or rewind through plays like a coach wants to do. It is either impossible to grab the slider button to scrub through the video. On both iPhones and iPads when you grab this slider the app either doesn’t recognize your touch, initiates the feature to show your running apps (iPhone 10 and later) or your Control Center (iOS devices with home button)(in both cases the phone is registering you swiping up), or switches you to your previously used apps. It is so frustrating in-game to constantly mess with this. It’s disappointing that this would happen on the most commonly used devices, and not have the issues ironed out after consecutive seasons. Other issues I don’t like. -Users can only set ODK while the film is running. I would like to be able to set it in between shots. -In the absence of the previous point, it would be nice to be able to edit the ODK play type. -Other sideline replay software allows you to enter much more data with each play. Down, distance, LOS, gain, loss, player, etc. It’s crazy that this company which seemingly has the HS video market cornered has not made these functions available. Couldn’t Hudl’s tagging a game and Sideline functions be combined? I’m sure it’s not easy, but it has to be doable. -better error coding and trouble shooting that point users to solutions

We’re a small sized HS. The technology works “as advertised” and gives us a major coaching advantage. However, what makes this system “go” is Hudl’s 24x7 tech support staff. I have yet to have talked with any Hudl person, day or night, during a game, after hours, anytime, who is not expert on their hardware & software, patient, clear - really professional. I’ve placed lots of calls, and come away well informed, with the issue solved each time. They are better than best-in-class, by a wide margin. I’m not won over easily. Hudl people have earned these accolades.
