Review summary

User reviews are largely negative. The most frequent issues are circular sign-in loops that require approving in the Authenticator to sign into the app itself, and failures to deliver or generate codes. Many users report unreliable cross-device syncing and difficulties migrating data when switching devices or platforms. Lockouts and poor recovery options further complicate access, along with unclear or unhelpful error messages. A few reviewers say it’s easy to use when it works, but overall reliability issues dominate feedback.
Pros
  • Easy to use / user-friendly (noted as "Superb app easy to use")
  • Good (positive brief feedback)
Cons
  • Circular login loop that requires approving in the Authenticator app to sign into the app
  • Codes are not delivered or accessible; cannot obtain authentication codes
  • Unreliable cross-device syncing and difficulties migrating data between devices/platforms
  • Getting locked out of accounts and limited recovery options
  • Poor or unclear error messaging and user guidance

2026-09-10 Th***** Horrible app, I never get the authentication code. I have a hard time logging into my app when it doesn’t give me any other option. It slows down my productivity and creates a lot more work for me.

2026-09-10 Fe***** I got logged out while changing phones and service providers. Signing in to Authenticator required access to Authenticator. Using an alternative method required resetting the password (can’t use an old password), which then required me to sign in to Authenticator using the new password, which required access to Authenticator. 2026-09-10 No***** Just look at their privacy policy. Do you want an Authenticator that does all of that to you?

2026-09-10 Ya***** To login to my email on the Outlook app using the MS Authenticator from the same phone, it automatically opens the Authenticator app that has the code to login. When you switch back to the Outlook app to try and enter the code, the it automatically reopens the authenticator app again before you can enter the code the code and complete the sign it. Ridiculousness!

2026-09-10 Sa***** I installed this because Microsoft forced my hands in order to install something on my new laptop. I have tried several times using it to log into ClipChamp and it never works. I end up needing to use a text to cell code. The user interface is terrible. Way too complicated and not useful or intuitive like Google Authenticator.

2026-09-09 sk***** For college students, I haven’t met a single person who enjoyed this software. It’s always a 3 minute hassle just to log in to outlook or Blackboard due to the lengthy authentication process which for some reason will always prompt you to do, even after u select “remember me for 60 days”
