Features & Capabilities

Denon AVR Remote turns your iPhone or iPad into a convenient controller for compatible 2014 and newer Denon network AV receivers. Adjust power, volume, input sources, ECO mode, sleep tone, channel levels, and selected setup options from a redesigned interface.

The app supports HEOS app switching for network browsing, provides access to user manuals, and includes multilingual support. Compatibility varies by receiver model, so check the supported Denon AVR list before installing. Network Control must be enabled and your receiver may require a firmware update.

User Reviews

Users largely view Denon AVR Remote as unreliable after recent updates. Core issues across many reviews include freezing, poor device discovery, and limited multi-zone control, with missing features like Atmos and speaker balance. Some experiences are device-dependent (iPad or older iPhone may work better), but overall the app’s consistency and compatibility have degraded, with reports of frequent reinstalls and even needing to unplug the AVR to regain control.
Pros
  • Historically, the app was user-friendly and functional before the last update.
  • Some users report reliable performance on iPad and older iPhone devices.
  • When it works, the app provides broad remote-like control over Denon receivers.
Cons
  • The app frequently freezes or becomes unresponsive after updates.
  • Receiver discovery/connectivity failures: it often cannot find the Denon AVR, or requires unplugging the AVR to reconnect.
  • Limited multi-zone control: Zone 2 is difficult or impossible to control, and multi-zone setup is not easily managed.
  • Important features can be missing or greyed out after updates (e.g., Atmos, speaker balance, Neural DTS).
  • The app requires frequent reinstalls or is very unreliable, with reports of daily deletions/reinstalls and persistent instability.

I can’t use the iPhone app to control the receiver anymore. It crashes the moment I try to control it.

It sees the AV receiver, I select it and then it just gives the white circle of nowhere. It has a static IP and all the settings on the unit for networking is correct, the settings for the app on the phone are correct. I cycled everything and reset up everything for connectivity along with a reinstall of the app. Same issue, white circle of nowhere. FIX the app so it functions. It’s 2026, it’s not that hard.
