Features & Capabilities

SAMi is a sleep activity monitor for caregivers and individuals who need to carefully watch for abnormal movements at night. SAMi uses a night vision network camera to look for unusual motion disrupting sleep. When an unusual event is detected an alarm is sounded. The display instantly switches to show video and audio. Within seconds, the caregiver can assess the situation and take any necessary action. All motion is also recorded for later review.

User Reviews

Reviews consistently praise SAMi3 for seizure monitoring, alerts, and multi-device caregiver access. However, the biggest recurring drawbacks are a clunky, unreliable app, connectivity problems between camera and app, high cost with hardware/network constraints, update/compatibility issues, and poor in-app playback. The product offers strong safety value and peace of mind, but usability, reliability, and price trade-offs are common concerns.
Pros
  • Provides peace of mind and sleep safety by monitoring for seizures and alerting caregivers.
  • Alerts and recordings of seizures and movements with adjustable sensitivity help caregivers review events.
  • Supports multiple caregivers by allowing the app to be installed on multiple phones/tablets for monitoring.
  • Clear video and reliable motion detection when the system is functioning as intended.
  • Customizable alerts, schedules, and device settings to fine-tune monitoring.
Cons
  • Clunky, outdated app design that is slow, not intuitive, and prone to glitches.
  • Frequent camera–app disconnections and unreliable connectivity, requiring restarts.
  • High cost and hardware requirements (expensive camera kit, hard-wired setup, same-network constraint) with limited remote access.
  • Software updates and OS compatibility issues, including outdated devices not supported and SD-card recognition problems after updates.
  • Poor in-app playback quality with long download times; users often need to extract the SD card to view videos.

This is a great idea and a good start. Obviously they are successful because no one else does this. We are a week in and I can’t say that our sleep is better yet (still working on settings and stuff), but I’m hopeful it’ll help once we dial it in. That being said, the app is pretty poorly designed and clunky. It freezes when trying for format the SD card every time, is not intuitive in the layout and honestly looks like it was designed by a high schooler. They really need to invest a little bit of money into an app overhaul and this might be amazing!

I don’t know why the epilepsy foundation recommends Sami. Wireless connections are standard nowadays. It’s not the 1980s, but we had to find and connect to the camera with an ethernet cable and modem. The app looks like a 3rd grade project and is very slow, clunky and glitchy. It decided you can’t use special characters to enter a password on one phone so it can’t connect, but it connected to the other phone no problem because it let us use special characters on that phone. I even redownloaded the app and keep my phone os up to date, and it still didn’t work! It looks like this app hasn’t been updated in years. It’s a piece of junk. The camera looks blurry and took several attempts to connect. It’s trash. We are supposed to trust our loved ones with this technology with all these problems? This is the most unintuitive, clunky and outdated piece of technology I’ve used in 15 years.
