Overview

Features & Capabilities

Canon Camera Connect is an app that lets you transfer images from compatible Canon cameras to your smartphone or tablet. By connecting via Wi‑Fi (direct or through a wireless router), you can transfer and save camera images, and remotely shoot with live view from your device while staying connected to Canon’s services.

The app also offers features for compatible cameras, including adding location data from your phone to images, switching to Wi‑Fi from Bluetooth pairing, remote shutter release, and firmware transfer. It supports multiple file types (JPEG, MP4, MOV, CR3, CR2, HEIF) with RAW import options and includes important notes about operation, battery usage, and data privacy.

User Reviews

Canon Camera Connect is praised for being simple to use and convenient for transferring and viewing photos on mobile, with users appreciating the 'import' flow and cross‑device compatibility (phone, laptop). However, a large set of issues dominates: unreliable connectivity (Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth often fails), mandatory Canon ID login and sign‑in problems, privacy/permission frictions (location access and full photo access), and overall usability problems (complex setup, tablet support lacking). Some users report it works well when it functions, but most reviews describe frequent failures and performance inconsistency across updates.
Pros
  • Easy to use with a simple import flow.
  • Wireless photo transfer to the phone without a PC and cross‑device compatibility (iPhone, laptop).
  • Handy for on-the-go uploading and sharing of photos.
  • When it works, it provides reliable remote shooting and access to photos.
Cons
  • Unreliable connectivity: Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth often fail to connect and apps disconnect; sometimes hard-wiring is needed.
  • Mandatory Canon ID login and frequent sign-in/out issues.
  • Privacy/permission friction: location access and full photo access required; data sharing concerns.
  • Poor UX and device/tablet support: complex setup, ugly UI, lack of tablet version.
  • Slow connection and transfer times.

I’m constantly have to disconnect and reconnect every day I use the app … it’s always at the most inconvenient times and I’m over it

I have happily downloaded pics to my phone many times and would rate this highly except they added a layer where you have to log in to a “canon account.” I do not want an account. I do not want to give canon my personal info nor access to my photos. This is a downgrade to my cameras that will influence my next camera purchase. Give me back anonymous access to my camera features. Update: I just got a Panasonic LUMIX. I successfully downloaded a picture to my phone with their app but without logging in first. Too bad I’ve got all these canon batteries around now.
