User Reviews

Users broadly praise CURB for real-time energy monitoring and the insight it provides into where electricity is used, and some note potential savings from the data. However, many reviews criticize the app after updates: historical charts and detailed telemetry were removed or locked behind a monthly paywall, making the data far less useful. Frequent stability issues (login failures, crashes, white screens) and a clunky, inconsistent UI worsen the experience, and limited integrations with SmartThings/Alexa/Apple Watch add friction. Overall, hardware remains valued, while the app experience has caused frustration for many customers.
Pros
  • Real-time energy monitoring provides awareness of power use and helps identify waste.
  • The CURB hardware delivers valuable energy data and supports effective energy management.
  • The app can reveal actionable insights that lead to energy savings.
  • Support responsiveness and assistance in troubleshooting.
  • Some users find the app simple to navigate and use.
Cons
  • Loss of historical/telemetry charts and time-series data in the updated app, reducing ability to see trends over time.
  • Access to own data now behind a monthly subscription, with data not accessible within the app or website without paying.
  • Frequent stability issues after updates: login failures, app freezes/crashes, white screens, and unresponsive UI.
  • Poor UX/UI in the new version, with a simplified interface that hides features and inconsistent behavior across devices.
  • Limited integrations with SmartThings, Alexa, and Apple Watch, and difficulties connecting or using these ecosystems.

Same here login doesn’t work for me. I’ve had the same username and password for quite a long time and it doesn’t log me in not on the app nor the website.

Login doesn't work anymore. No errors, just does nothing when clicking the button.

I loved the Curb box in my electrical panel. I learned a lot about our power consumption by reviewing the detailed time series charts. Then they removed those charts from the app. So now I just go to the full website to see them. The app is fairly useless without the charts. But now, as of Nov 2024, they are going to stop providing access to that data unless you subscribe to their service for a minimum of $4.99/month. This is not payment for or within the app. There will be no way to access your own data kin any way without paying Curb. Not in the app, not on the website, not through the API. But keep in mind that you own the Curb box in your electrical panel. You bought it, even if it was included in your solar system installation. I have a warranty that describes me as the “end user purchaser.” So even though I own the physical device, I can’t access my own data about my own electricity use without paying them monthly.
