User Reviews

Users praise Lionel iCab for its rich feature set and remote-like control, plus compatibility across iPad/tablet and multiple Apple devices. A two-app design is viewed positively for offering complementary features. However, the consensus is that the app is expensive, has a clunky UI with bugs and missing legacy controls, and suffers from networking/connectivity hurdles such as base connection issues and discovery requirements that complicate static IP setups. Several reviews also reinforce strong overall enjoyment despite these issues. Overall, users want price relief, UX improvements, and more robust connectivity, but many still see value in the app.
Pros
  • Rich feature set with extensive remote control capabilities.
  • Cross-device compatibility across iPad/tablet and multiple Apple devices.
  • Two-app design offering complementary features.
  • Generally positive sentiment and perceived value from users.
Cons
  • High price / expensive app (around $50).
  • Clunky UI/UX with bugs and missing legacy controls.
  • Networking and base connectivity constraints, including auto-discovery and limited static IP configuration.

The above say it all, if you are really serious about the app then get a real devsecops process in place and update regularly and make it really useful otherwise everyone will go to something else like maybe using JMRI or the DCS side instead. I bought lots of Lionel stuff as a new hobbyist and ordered the new base3 but here it is a year later and nothing and by the sound of it is not going to be released until end of summer if you look at preorder times at the moment. By the time it comes out it will be close to two years for a preorder!!
