User reviews consistently praise Lutron hardware but rail against the iOS app: frequent connectivity failures, slow loading, and instability; schedules and automations often fail; UI is dated with limited customization; critical iOS features like widgets and reliable geofencing are missing or flaky. Pros

Lutron/Caséta are expensive but top notch hardware.
The Lutron devices work well and I very rarely need to use the app.
Could not live without it now. How did I ever survive before?

Cons

Frequent connectivity issues / cannot connect to the Lutron system.
App is slow and resource-heavy, with long load times and reloading when returning to it.
Schedules and automations don’t work reliably; manual changes can be overridden and lights may flicker.
Dated, clunky UI with limited navigation; cannot reorder rooms/icons and basic customization is missing.
Missing iOS features like Home Screen widgets and geofencing reliability (and occasional iOS/compatibility issues).

Recent reviews

While Lutron hardware is fantastic, I’m surprised to see the gracious ratings of this app. If you actually look at it more critically, it is VERY slow and difficult to use. Every step of the app requires several steps of waiting—whether you are opening the app, adding a new fixture, or just doing routine maintenance like renaming and moving items around. In some cases, updates don’t save or it takes several seconds for an update to save while the UI is frozen. There needs to be a bigger effort from Lutron to improve their software performance in this regard. Additionally, but perhaps less important to performance, the app feels very dated, the UI needs to be refreshed and the lack of automatic dark mode should be fixed.

All my painstakingly designed Scenes disappeared today… this is going to take hours to rebuild and reconfigure. This app is terrible.

After updating iOS the app will only occasionally connect while on the same network, never when I’m away, and geofencing no longer works. So, now my whole system is next to useless. The switches/devices are nice, but the app is 90% of the whole system. The app doesn’t work, and has apparently been an ongoing issue, so I’d stay away from the Lutron ecosystem.
