Features & Capabilities

PulsePoint AED provides real-time notifications of cardiac emergencies near registered AEDs, regardless of manufacturer or model. It helps build, manage, and mobilize the National Emergency AED Registry (NEAR). Registered AEDs are accessible to emergency call takers and disclosed to people nearby when a cardiac arrest occurs. The registry grows as app users submit locations of unregistered AEDs, making lifesaving devices easier to find. It also records lifesaving resources at AED locations, such as Bleeding Control Kits, Naloxone, and Epinephrine.

This end-to-end solution is FirstNet Certified and integrates with leading emergency medical dispatch workflows, enabling telecommunicators to guide callers to registered AEDs. PulsePoint is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; the AED and Respond apps and NEAR support its mission to improve cardiac arrest survival. User Reviews

PulsePoint AED is praised for crowdsourcing AED locations, easy contribution, finding the nearest AED, and potential lifesaving impact. Recurrent concerns include incomplete data (many AEDs missing or pending), reliability problems (crashes/brick risks), onboarding friction (mandatory signup/slow verification), UI/UX gaps (screen clutter, no watch app, photo-upload limits), and questions about notification reliability. Overall, strong lifesaving potential hampered by data coverage, reliability, and onboarding issues.
Pros
  • Users can easily add AED locations, helping crowdsourced data grow.
  • The app helps locate the nearest AED and can alert you to nearby emergencies.
  • Positive public safety impact and potential to save lives, according to users.
  • Provides photos, descriptions, and instructions for AEDs.
  • Works across multiple regions/cities, enabling use in different locales.
Cons
  • AED data is incomplete and often marked as Pending Approval, leaving many locations missing.
  • Reliability issues: the app can crash or brick devices, and some installations fail.
  • Onboarding friction: mandatory signup/login with email verification can delay use in emergencies.
  • UI/UX concerns and feature gaps: elements blocking the screen, lack of a watch app, and limited photo/library uploads.
  • Questions about notification reliability/timeliness and alert effectiveness.
Recent reviews
While I think this app is great to find AEDs around your area (watched demo in my ACLS/BLS) class), I wasn't able to open the app at all because it gets stuck on notifications. The app doesn't open other than the notifications window. At that point, Im not able to do ANYTHING with my phone other than force restart it (if anyone has the same issue for Iphone 17, it's push volume up one sec then down one sec and then push and hold the right side button until Apple screen appears/screen is black).

Why on earth do you need a login to see AED details? “Hang on keep compressions going while I click forgot password”
