Features & Capabilities

SonoPhone for Sonos provides a faster, more reliable way to control your Sonos system on S1 and S2. It speeds up common tasks with fewer taps, presents a cleaner, more stable interface, and keeps backward compatibility as a priority. You can manage zones and music sources from a single app, putting device control in your hands rather than the other way around.

Designed with modern iOS principles, it supports grouping and rearranging players via drag-and-drop, displays precise volume and track progress, and offers quick shortcuts to the most-used actions. Note: this is a third‑party app, not endorsed by Sonos. See the feature video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/aMEuaZPUH58

User Reviews

SonoPhone for Sonos is praised by many users for its speed, reliability, and ability to quickly locate and manage both legacy and modern Sonos devices, often outperforming the official app. Reviewers frequently mention faster responses, reduced lag, easier setup, and features like grouping and per-device volume that improve usability. However, several users report issues with detecting speakers, a barebones UI and clunky navigation, and occasional glitches where controls disappear or the app lags. A few fear the app may be abandoned or under-maintained. Overall, it's seen as a strong replacement with caveats.
Pros
  • Fast, responsive performance with minimal lag
  • Detects and lists all Sonos devices, including legacy S1 and newer speakers
  • Easier and faster to use than the official Sonos app, with fewer taps
  • Reliable operation—controls work consistently without frequent reboots
  • Supports grouping and per-speaker volume management for easier control
Cons
  • Occasional device detection failures where speakers aren’t found
  • Barebones UI with clunky navigation
  • Occasional glitches such as controls disappearing or noticeable lag during use
  • Some reports of perceived lack of ongoing maintenance or abandonment

This app is excellent at finding, connecting and controlling my Sonos S1 system. It is also extremely Fast! Overall leaves me wondering why Sonos does not provide this experience with their app. I recently replaced my iPhone and the S1 app would not connect to my Sonos system. After much time debugging, following the, unhelpful, Sonos recommended procedures, I downloaded this app. Within 5 seconds, this app connected, found all system components, services, playlists, etc. Great job!!

Cannot find my Sonos devices. The reason i got the app was to replace the useless sonos app, which also cannot detect them. This app’s suggested fix was to consult the sonos app, so obviously that is useless and this was a waste of $4. And yes, I am connected to my network. Thanks.
