Features & Capabilities

Nintype, used by over 150k people, turns your iPhone or iPad into a highly productive typing device. Its two-handed sliding keyboard lets you compose words with slides and taps, while a top bar lets you quickly correct mistakes. You can move the cursor by sliding the spacebar, erase with a backspace slide, and insert punctuation with edge slides. Emojis are accessible via long-press, and the emojify feature converts words into emojis.

In addition to the keyboard, Nintype offers a robust note-taking app with subfolders, shortcuts, recent history, an archive, and quick share options. It supports multiple languages (English first, plus Danish, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, and Swedish) and includes quick paste, customizable themes, autospace mode, and a number pad/calculator for fast data entry.

User Reviews

Nintype is praised for incredibly fast, gesture-based typing and rich customization, earning loyalty as a potential best keyboard for power users. However, its major drawbacks are a long lack of updates and aging UI, frequent stability problems, and growing iOS compatibility issues. The core value—speed and power-user features—remains when it works, but reliability and ongoing support are persistent concerns.
Pros
  • Extremely fast typing thanks to gesture-based input (two-finger swipes), dramatically increasing typing speed for many users.
  • Rich customization and feature-rich design (themes, gestures, haptic feedback) that can be tailored to individual workflows.
  • Strong loyalty and long-standing positive reputation among power users, with many calling it the best keyboard ever or a game changer.
Cons
  • Very infrequent updates for years, making the app feel abandoned and the GUI feel aged/obsolete.
  • Frequent stability issues such as freezing, crashes, and memory leaks that disrupt typing.
  • Compatibility problems with newer iOS versions (e.g., keyboard not appearing or unstable behavior after updates) and other iOS integration issues.
  • Certain UI/app feedback elements (colors/animations) can vanish or become unusable after updates or state changes, requiring resets.

I can tell this used to be awesome. Now, there are issues. The big one being that half the time the keyboard pops up there’s nothing there. It hasn’t been updated in 6 years and needs to be reworked for the latest iOS. Should not still be available for purchase.

A bit of a learning curve at first to understand how to use a double swipe keyboard, but I still been using this for years and it absolutely still stands out as the best keyboard ever. Highly recommend giving it a try.
