Features & Capabilities

Xynthesizr is a streamlined 32-step matrix sequencer and mono synth with generative features and MIDI. It supports real-time pattern editing and morphing, plus MIDI output to synths, DAWs, and devices, as well as Ableton Link, Audiobus 3, and Inter-App Audio. With 40+ presets and easy save/import/export of patterns, it’s a flexible tool for live performance and studio work.

Generative features include Conway’s Life-like cellular automata and probability-based pattern morphing, with area-limited morphing, tempo flexibility, and real-time transposition within chosen scales. The built-in synth offers two anti-aliased oscillators, multiple waveforms, a resonant 24 dB/oct filter, two ADSR envelopes, and dual LFOs for routing to multiple targets. You can record, export audio, and map notes to MIDI channels for multi-app setups.

User Reviews

Xynthesizr is lauded as a deep, flexible sequencer with generative capabilities, extensive MIDI routing, and a solid built-in synth. Users praise its intuitive workflow and cross-device usability, plus Ableton Link integration. The main recurring drawbacks are the absence of AUv3 support and tempo precision problems with decimal BPMs.
Pros
  • Deep, feature-rich sequencer with powerful generative options (randomization, Conway's Life) for inspiration
  • 32-step sequencing with support for odd time signatures (like 9/8) and adjustable sequence length
  • Flexible MIDI routing to multiple outputs/channels, enabling control of external synths and multiple MIDI destinations
  • Solid built-in synth engine and the option to use the app as a MIDI controller
  • Easy-to-use, fast workflow across iPhone and iPad with strong Ableton Link and cross-app integration
Cons
  • No AUv3 compatibility yet, a commonly requested feature across reviews
  • Tempo/fine-tuning precision issues with decimal BPMs (e.g., decimal BPM not adjusting cleanly; decimal tempo like 119.8)

This is still a great app, but can you please make it AUV3 compatible? This would be absolutely insane inside of AUM.

Lovely and fun sequencer and synth but one glaring issue: fine tune won’t work when you land on a incremental BPM for example 73.3. If you have ever shared files between devices or friends you know the problems a decimal can bring. This is when you need fine tuning! Unfortunately fine tuning control only changes the number before the decimal. Maybe the dev needs to Google what fine tuning means? Idk I hate anything that is not exact BPM. No more wishy washy in between beat counts please

I can’t stop exploring all the great features of this app. Every time I wonder if a particular feature might be implemented, I find that it not only there, but it exceeds my expectations. I liked the app so much that I purchased the other two apps by this developer.
