Features & Capabilities

AdBlock is the original and enduring ad-blocker for iOS. With a one-time purchase and no subscriptions, it blocks 99% of popups, banners, and video ads, while protecting privacy, reducing data usage, speeding up your device, and extending battery life on iPhone and iPad.

Key features include a built-in local DNS proxy with customizable rules, import/export of DNS rules, a Safari Content Blocker, and iCloud-synced rule sets. It blocks mobile trackers, keeps all traffic local (no remote servers), supports both Wi-Fi and cellular networks, and includes a widget for quick DNS toggling plus automatic filter updates. Support is just a tap away within the app.

User Reviews

Overall, reviews are mixed. Many praise AdBlock as effective and worth the price when working, with easy setup and benefits for non-technical users and families. A large portion report that it no longer blocks ads reliably, fails after iOS updates, or blocks inconsistently, including on Safari. Several note lack of updates and ongoing compatibility problems, plus occasional unexpected charges and weak support. Some say robust blocking requires extensive manual rule configuration, which can be complex. Reliability and ongoing maintenance appear to be the main concerns.
Pros
  • Effective ad blocking when properly configured.
  • Clear setup guides and videos that help non-technical users.
  • Good value for money at a low price.
  • Adds simplicity and reduces clutter for family members (elderly users).
Cons
  • Doesn’t block ads reliably; many reviews say it stops working or blocks few ads.
  • No longer updated / compatibility issues with newer iOS versions; appears abandoned.
  • Safari ads not blocked consistently; some apps still display ads.
  • Unclear charges or subscriptions and weak support.
  • Requires manual rule configuration which can be risky and confusing for users.

This used to work very well, but for the past few months it has allowed far too many ads. Going to switch to a different ad blocking app.
