User Reviews

Review sentiment is mixed. Many praise Weblock for its historical ad-blocking and affordable proxy capabilities across iPads, but a dominant theme is obsolescence: the app is reportedly unmaintained and incompatible with newer iOS versions, blocking ads inconsistently today. Additional complaints include VPN conflicts, complex setup, and poor customer support. Overall, while it once delivered value, users question current viability and ongoing maintenance, noting it may work only in select cases and is unreliable on recent iOS versions.
Pros
  • Historically effective ad-blocking across apps and a proxy-based approach, offering a budget-friendly alternative to pricier VPN solutions.
  • Worked on multiple iOS devices (e.g., iPads) and could block ads beyond the browser in some contexts.
  • Long-standing tool with years of use, with many users relying on it for a long period.
  • In older versions, could block ads across apps, not just browser ads.
Cons
  • Not updated for years; appears to be unmaintained and outdated.
  • Stopped working on newer iOS versions (notably iOS 14/15+), with ads no longer blocked for many users.
  • Ad-blocking now inconsistent or minimal (only a small fraction of ads blocked in current versions).
  • Conflicts with VPN/proxy setup (can disconnect the VPN or require complex legacy-mode steps).
  • Support and refund issues reported (slow responses, difficulty obtaining refunds).

This was good but hasn’t been updated in years. Do not spend money on this outdated app.

When I set up Weblock it disconnects the VPN and sets up the Proxy manager VPN. This is the result of following the Weblock app's instructions and FAQ. So I ask myself... which is better? Weblock will be reactivated if the Devs can clear this up

I’ve been using this amazing tool since 2013, and is a great way to use proxy services; without breaking your bank using a professional solution or hefty server. If anybody is using legacy mode—Which is necessary if you are using a separate VPN on iOS/iPadOS or have a device policy that prevents the aforementioned—you will need to do the following (in order) before ‘Weblocking’ will work: Enter the automatic URL or manual IP+port in ‘HTTP PROXY - Configure Proxy’ Settings, (no authentication is required)>Turn ‘Wi-Fi’ off>Open ‘App Switcher’>Quit all apps>Turn ‘Wi-Fi’ on. This is necessary for some apps and your wireless card to perform a new TCP/IP handshake with the proxy server. If the previous steps didn’t work, perform the following steps (in order): Ensure the URL or IP/port info is entered correctly>Copy/Paste if necessary>Turn ‘Wi-Fi’ off>Turn ‘Airplane-Mode’ on>Open App Switcher>Quit all apps>Perform a ‘Force Restart.’-..v(shown below)v.. On new iPhones (running iOS 15 and greater): Press the ‘volume-up’ and release quickly>Press the ‘volume-down’ button and release quickly>Press both the ‘volume-down’ + ‘power’ button at the same time and hold>While holding, power off the device>Once the ‘Apple Logo’ appears, let go of the buttons>Once screen is completely black, power-on phone. *(For older or different iPhones, search for “Force restart iPhone” on a search engine or Apples support website)*
