Recipe Box is a cookbook for the recipes you actually use — the one you saved from a website at midnight, the one photographed out of a library book, and the one in your grandmother's handwriting.

SAVE A RECIPE FROM ANYWHERE

• Paste a link. The ingredients, the steps and the times are read straight off the page.
• Photograph a printed page or a handwritten card. The camera finds the edges and straightens the page for you.
• Open a PDF — the exports and printouts that have been sitting in your files for years.
• Or write one out yourself.

Reading happens on your iPhone or iPad. A photograph, a PDF and a handwritten card are never uploaded anywhere; only pasting a link needs the internet, and only to fetch the page you asked for.

COOK FROM IT Step-by-step cooking mode: big type, a screen that stays awake, and the amounts written into the step so you are not scrolling back up with wet hands. A timer on every step that names one. On iPad the ingredients stay open beside the method.

WHAT CAN I COOK? Name what is in the fridge. It searches your own recipes and the eighty that come with the app, and shows you what you can make now — and what you are one ingredient short of.

A SHOPPING LIST THAT SORTS ITSELF Send a recipe's ingredients to the list and they arrive filed by supermarket aisle. Press and hold to move something. Make your own aisles.

COOKING FOR ELEVEN? Change the servings and every amount rewrites itself as a fraction you can actually measure. Read a recipe written in cups in grams, or the other way round.

STAYS ON YOUR PHONE No account, no password, and no server of ours. Your cookbook lives on the device you wrote it on and travels in your iPhone's own backup, so a new phone restores it along with everything else. Any recipe shares as a PDF, free, from its own page.

FREE AND PRO Free keeps one recipe of your own, one cookbook, five items on the shopping list, and opens six of the eighty. PRO removes those ceilings and unlocks conversion between metric and US measures.

Recipe Box PRO is $6.99 per week after a 3-day free trial. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at the end of the trial. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and can be managed in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
