Lanternly - Quiz Alarm Clock

Lanternly is an alarm that won't switch off until you've answered three questions from your own notes.

Not maths. Not shaking the phone. Your notes: the ones you'll be tested on anyway. Type them, snap a page with the camera, import a PDF, or add a lecture video, and Lanternly turns them into questions. When the alarm rings, you answer three to turn it off. There's no snooze button and no way round it, so you get up on the first alarm and start the day having already revised.

HOW IT WORKS

• Add notes any way you like: typing, a photo of a page, a PDF, a text file, or a lecture video (it reads the slides and what was said).
• Set one alarm. No backups needed, because it rings until you've answered.
• Get one wrong? You get another. Three right and you're up.
• Photos, files and videos are read on your phone and thrown away. Nothing you upload is kept.

AND IT CHECKS YOU STAYED UP Answering three questions proves you were awake for a minute. It doesn't prove you didn't roll over. So Wick comes back over the next quarter of an hour, one question each time, a real alarm every time. Get up and walk somewhere and the next check asks nothing and calls the rest off. The morning only counts for your streak once you've cleared them, and a check left unanswered for half an hour ends the round. Going back to sleep costs you the day, which is the whole point.

WICK Wick is the moth who carries your lantern. Every morning you see through to the last check, the lantern stays lit, your streak grows, and Wick grows with it through seven forms, earned one morning at a time. Each morning you also open a lantern for a prize: XP, streak freezes, new forms. Nothing in Lanternly is ever for sale; everything Wick has, you earned by getting up.

ON YOUR HOME SCREEN The widget shows whether tomorrow is handled at a glance, alarm set and questions ready, and Wick's mood tells you if something's missing.

NO ACCOUNT, NOTHING TO TRACK There is no sign-up, no email, no password. Your alarms, notes and streak live on your phone. Nothing about how you use the app is sent anywhere unless you choose to turn analytics on in Settings. The one thing that leaves your phone is the text of a note, sent to an EU-hosted AI to write your questions. That is how the app works, it is explained before your first note, and it is never used for training.

SUBSCRIPTION Lanternly is subscription-only. A yearly plan (£29.99, with a 3-day free trial) or a monthly plan (£4.99). Prices vary by country. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings.
