Bao: Mandarin Chinese is a private, offline-first study companion for learners who want a clear path through HSK vocabulary without losing their place.

Your daily workout combines new words with reviews that are actually due. If you miss a day, Bao keeps catch-up work separate. If you want to learn ahead, the path remains flexible. Words are ordered from simpler roots to related compounds, while optional tone, writing, speaking, radical, and sound-family tools appear when they are useful.

Learning progress stays on the learner’s iPhone and, when iCloud is available, is protected in the learner’s private CloudKit database. The learner may also explicitly export a backup. Voice transcription uses Apple Speech and uses on-device recognition when iOS makes it available.
