Mirante is a full-screen world map covered in photos taken in the last 24 hours. A street in Lisbon at lunchtime. A beach in Da Nang this morning. The queue outside a cafe in Mexico City ten minutes ago. Open the map, move it anywhere, and look.

Browsing the map is free. Posting, messaging and saved places are part of Mirante Plus — see below.

HOW A PHOTO GETS ON THE MAP

You take it in the app, with the app's camera, standing where you are. There is no upload button and no camera roll, so nothing on the map is a holiday photo from three years ago.

Every photo is deleted 24 hours after it is posted. Come back tomorrow and the map has changed.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Browse any city in the world as it looks right now. See how many people are on the map around you. Open a photo and see where it was taken.

With Mirante Plus, you can also:

Post your own photos, taken where you are standing. Save a region and get a notification when somebody posts a photo there. Message the person who took a photo and ask what it is like to be there. Keep a profile of your own photos, on the map and in a grid. See who has opened your photos and visited your profile.

YOUR LOCATION STAYS YOURS

Photos appear on the map about 150 metres from where they were taken. The exact coordinate never reaches anybody else's phone, and it is stripped out of the photo file before the photo is uploaded. You can post from your balcony without telling strangers which balcony.

Travellers working out whether a place is worth the flight. Nomads picking the next city. People who moved somewhere last week and want to know who else is around. Anyone who has booked a hotel from photos and then arrived somewhere else.

Mirante Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription.

Plus unlocks:

Opening any photo on the map, with no daily limit. Posting your own photos, up to ten a day. Saving places and being notified when somebody posts there. Starting conversations, and replying to anyone who writes to you. Seeing who opened your photos and visited your profile.

Without Plus you can browse the map anywhere in the world, open one photo a day, and read messages sent to you.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the same price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings.
