Obtura: Photography Coach

You know the photo you want. Obtura gets you the settings.

Point your iPhone at the scene, describe the shot you imagine, and Obtura translates it into exact settings for your manual or film camera. Then the part that changes everything: previsualisation. See a simulated preview on your iPhone before you press the shutter of a camera designed decades before smartphones existed.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Create a profile for your camera and lens, from a curated library or straight off your own dials.
2. Point your iPhone at the scene. Obtura meters it precisely.
3. Describe the shot: freeze the tackle, silky water, creamy portrait, moody silhouette.
4. Get aperture, shutter and ISO for your camera, plus technique that fits the moment.
5. Previsualise: see depth of field, motion and exposure rendered live in a simulation before you shoot for real.

PRIVATE BY ARCHITECTURE No account. No analytics about your photography or how you use the app. No tracking. Your photos, readings and journal never leave your device. The only thing that ever travels is your purchase receipt.

The photography workflow works offline. On supported iPhones, Apple Intelligence writes scene-specific coaching on device. When it is unavailable, Obtura uses expert preset coaching instead. Your settings never depend on a server.

OBTURA PRO The light meter is free and unlimited. Camera profiles, calibration and the journal are free too. Without Pro, you can create three coached shots per rolling seven-day period; each includes settings, technique and previsualisation. Obtura Pro removes that limit, as a monthly or annual subscription (7-day free trial on the annual) or a one-time lifetime purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; manage them in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
