It ranks the public chargers around you by what a charge will actually cost YOUR car — not the headline pence-per-kWh — working out the real price for your specific model, connector, current battery level and the memberships you hold, on your device.

A headline rate is easy to show. Your real cost isn't — it depends on how fast your car actually charges, which plug it takes, how full the battery is, and which memberships you hold. That's the number ChargeSort works out, and it's what the ranking is built on.

No network pays to rank higher. ChargeSort doesn't sell promotion or take a cut from operators, so the order you see is only ever about what's cheapest for you — never who paid. A 150 kW charger doesn't give every car 150 kW — ChargeSort estimates how long you'll really be there from your car's own charging curve, so a cheap charger that takes an hour longer doesn't look like a bargain.
