Features & Capabilities

The August 2026 total eclipse crosses Iceland and Spain. Umbro gives you the times, the path, the forecast, and a camera that knows what it is pointed at.

Umbro tells you exactly what a solar eclipse will look like from wherever you are standing.

Pick a spot — your current location, a city, or a point in the middle of the ocean — and Umbro works out the whole event for it: when the Moon first touches the Sun, when totality begins and ends, how much of the Sun is covered at maximum, and where in the sky to look.

COUNTDOWN AND LIVE TRACKING A running countdown to first contact, then to each contact after it. On the day, a Live Activity puts the countdown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and its icon changes as the eclipse moves from partial to totality and back.

LOCAL CIRCUMSTANCES Contact times to the second, magnitude, obscuration, Sun altitude and azimuth, and the duration of totality — all computed on your device from Besselian elements, with no connection required.

THE PATH The umbral track drawn across an interactive globe and map. Scrub time forward and back to watch the shadow cross the Earth.

WILL YOU ACTUALLY SEE IT? Cloud cover forecasts for your location in the days before the event, so you know whether it is worth moving.

EYE SAFETY, STATED PLAINLY Umbro tells you when it is not safe to look at the Sun without a filter and — during totality only — when it is. The guidance is tied to the contact times computed for your exact position, not to a general rule of thumb.

A CAMERA BUILT FOR THE EVENT An eclipse-specific capture mode: exposure locked and stepped through a bracket ladder suited to each phase, re-metering automatically as the Sun climbs or sinks, and an HDR corona stack merged from the totality frames. A thin partial crescent and a full corona are not metered the same way, and Umbro does not pretend otherwise.

WATCHING FROM A SHIP? If the position you choose is out in open water, Umbro offers a vessel mode that accounts for drift and for the roll of a deck when it works out contact times and camera settings.

WIDGETS Home Screen widgets with the countdown, the coverage, and the sky at maximum.

UPCOMING ECLIPSES Every solar eclipse for the next 25 years, each with the local circumstances for your position, and a reminder you can set for any one of them.

Umbro has no advertising, no accounts, and no third-party trackers. Astronomical algorithms after Jean Meeus. Weather data by Open-Meteo. Not affiliated with NASA or any observatory.

SAFETY: Never look at the Sun without proper solar filters, except during the brief total phase. Umbro's guidance is a convenience and not a substitute for certified eye protection.
