Features & Capabilities

Red Sea, diving, scuba, dive sites, marine life, fish ID, weather, fishing, sailing

The Red Sea Atlas is a reference and community platform for everyone who works and plays on the Egyptian Red Sea. Divers, anglers, sailors, kiters and boat owners.

THE CATALOGUE Twenty seven dive sites along the Egyptian coast, from the Straits of Tiran to the deep south. Each one carries depth, visibility, current and skill notes, the dive maps, the marine life you can expect, and an honest account of what the site asks of you. The Thistlegorm, Elphinstone, Abu Nahas, Daedalus, the Brothers, Ras Mohamed and the rest.

MARINE LIFE Fifty two species profiled in context. Where they are found, how they behave, what their conservation status actually means, and how to conduct yourself around them. Written for people who will meet these animals underwater rather than read about them.

CONDITIONS Wind, waves, water temperature, tides, sun, moon and Saharan dust for eight spots on the coast: Hurghada, El Gouna, Ras Sudr, Dahab, Sharm el Sheikh, Safaga, Marsa Alam and Hamata. Ten days ahead, with an honest read on whether the day suits diving, fishing, kiting or sailing.

FISH ID Photograph a fish, underwater or on the deck, and get a ranked list of likely species with a reference photo, a researched profile and a keep or release call.

YOUR LOGBOOK Dives, water sport sessions and catches, with photos, kept in one place and counted.

THE LOG Thirty one articles covering incidents on these waters, conservation, marine life and the questions divers actually ask. The Atlas documents Red Sea liveaboard incidents in full, because the record matters more than the discomfort of keeping it.

THE COAST AND THE ROUTES The towns, resorts and beaches along the coast, and the eight canonical liveaboard itineraries with the sites each one covers, described operator neutral.

THE EXCHANGE A marketplace for used gear between members. The Atlas introduces buyer and seller and never handles payment. Regulators and tanks are not permitted, on safety grounds.

THE COMMUNITY A feed, member profiles and a photo library built by the people diving and fishing these waters. Photographs and sighting notes are reviewed before they appear.

Free to join, and free to stay. There are no tiers and no membership fees.

The Atlas is independent. It is not a booking site and it does not soften what it publishes about the operators or the conditions.
