Murder OX: Mystery Puzzle Game

A body in the wine cellar. A house full of suspects, a handful of weapons, a set of rooms, and a page of statements that, read carefully enough, leave only one possible answer.

Murder OX is a murder-themed logic grid puzzle. You mark a grid with crosses and ticks, eliminating what the clues forbid until a single arrangement survives. Then you name the killer.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

This is deduction, not placement. There is no board to fill in and no lucky guess that gets you through. Every one of the cases was solved by a constraint solver before it shipped, and any case that could be finished by guessing was thrown away. If you are stuck, the answer is in the clues, you just have not found it yet.

The ladder is built, not random. Early cases are three categories of four. Later you face four categories, then five items per category, and the clue types sharpen as you climb: direct matches give way to traits, height thresholds, either-or statements and comparisons. Rookie, easy, steady, tricky, hard, fiendish, the difficulty is named on every case so you always know where you stand.

THE LYING WITNESS

From case 62 onward, roughly a third of the cases add testimony. Every suspect says something about themselves. The innocent tell the truth; the killer lies. The generator tested each suspect as the liar and kept only the cases where exactly one of them produces a consistent solution, so the statements are never decoration.
