FaceDepth - Depth Camera

Point the camera at a face and watch its depth appear in real time. Everything runs on your iPhone — no account, no upload, no connection needed.

FaceDepth turns your camera into a depth camera. Point it at a face and the shape of that face appears as a live, colour-mapped depth image — at around 30 frames a second, computed entirely on your iPhone.

There is no server. There is no account. There is no upload. The neural network ships inside the app and runs on the device's own GPU, so FaceDepth works in aeroplane mode, in a basement, and on the day the internet is having a bad time.

LIVE CAMERA • Real-time depth from every lens your iPhone has — front, ultra-wide, wide and telephoto • Face-priority autofocus keeps the subject sharp instead of the wall behind them • Capture stills or record video with the depth look baked in • Photos and videos save straight to your library with correct focal length, exposure and capture date • Grid, self-timer and flash, where the hardware supports it

IMPORT AND PROCESS • Run any video or photo from your library, iCloud Drive or Files through the same model • Progress continues on the Lock Screen while you do something else • Output is written at full source resolution with the original audio intact

CONTROLS Swipe the selector beside the shutter to reach every setting without leaving the viewfinder: • Seven colour maps — inferno, magma, turbo, viridis, plasma, bone and grey • Near and far clipping, to spend the whole colour range on the part of the scene you care about • Gamma, for how sharply depth falls off • Range and depth smoothing, to trade temporal stability against motion blur • Invert, and a side-by-side view showing the source next to its depth

BUILT FOR THE HARDWARE FaceDepth measures your device rather than assuming. A setting times the model across CPU, GPU and Neural Engine and picks whichever is genuinely fastest on your iPhone — which is not always the one you would expect. The camera also asks for exactly the frame rate the pipeline can sustain, so it does not waste power capturing frames it would only throw away.

PRIVACY FaceDepth collects nothing. No analytics, no crash telemetry, no advertising identifier, no accounts. Camera and microphone access are used only to produce the image and video you are looking at. Photo library access is used only to read the file you choose and to save the result you asked for.
