An urge is a wave. It rises, peaks, and passes, usually within minutes, if you ride it instead of fighting or feeding it.

Surf turns that into something you can actually do in the moment. When a craving hits, open the app, tap once, and ride a single wave for 90 seconds. You watch it swell and break while the sea carries you down and gently back up. Most of the pull is gone by the time you surface.

That is it. No streaks to protect, no lectures, no account, no noise.

WHY 90 SECONDS Surf is built on urge surfing, a technique from Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (Bowen, Marlatt). Cravings are not commands. They come and go on their own, and watching one pass makes the next one easier to sit with.

A few things the research points to:

• A brief pause before acting on an impulse leads people to abandon a large share of those impulsive actions.
• Putting a feeling into words, what researchers call affect labelling, lowers its intensity. Rating your urge from 0 to 10 is a small version of exactly that.

Surf is honest about its limits. These studies are about attention and craving in general, not proof that Surf will change your habits. Surf never blocks anything and makes no medical claims. It is a calm place to ride out a moment, not a cure.
