Booktionary looks a word up without you losing your pace. Hold the phone over the page, put the centre ring on the word, and hold steady for about a second. The definition shows up, with the word in your own language above it. Swipe it away and carry on reading.

Translations Set your own language once. When the book isn't in it, every definition arrives with the word you would use instead: "luminous" gives "lumineux". The equivalents come from Wiktionary's own bilingual entries, so they read like a dictionary rather than a machine translation.

Offline The dictionaries are inside the app, so there's nothing to load and nothing to wait for. No network, no account, no sign-in.

English and French Over 1.9 million entries. Inflected forms go to the entry you'd actually look up: "mangeaient" gives "manger", "running" gives "run". The camera works out which language the book is in, so there is nothing to set before you read.

Recognition Tuned for a book held the way you'd normally hold it, not flat on a table. A green highlight sweeps across the word as it reads, so you can see what it picked up and when it's done.

Privacy No analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no network requests. Camera frames are processed on the phone and thrown away. Nothing is saved, nothing is sent.
