Solunar theory has predicted feeding activity since 1926 — based on the moon's position overhead, underfoot, rising, and setting. It is the closest thing fishing has to a cheat code. BiteTime calculates it all locally, for any spot, any day, up to a year ahead.

The Bite Score blends the solunar rating with real fishing weather — barometric pressure and trend, wind, and temperature — into a single score with a one-line explanation of what's driving it. No signal at the lake? The score falls back to pure solunar and keeps working.

DAILY RATING

Every day gets a 1-to-5 rating based on moon phase and feeding period alignment with sunrise and sunset. New moon and full moon days score highest. Quarter moons score lowest. You will know at a glance whether today is worth the trip.

FOUR FEEDING WINDOWS

BiteTime calculates all four daily feeding periods:

Major Period 1 -- Moon overhead (transit). Roughly 2 hours of peak activity. Major Period 2 -- Moon underfoot (opposite transit). Same intensity, opposite side. Minor Period 1 -- Moonrise. About 1 hour of elevated feeding. Minor Period 2 -- Moonset. Same as moonrise, at the other end.

When a major period overlaps sunrise or sunset, activity spikes. BiteTime flags these overlap days so you never miss the best windows of the month.

ABOUT SOLUNAR THEORY

John Alden Knight published solunar theory in 1926 after studying the feeding patterns of fish and game relative to the moon's position. The idea is simple: when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot, gravitational pull peaks and fish feed more aggressively. Moonrise and moonset create secondary feeding windows. Decades of fishing logs support the pattern.
