Caster - Phone Mirroring

Mirror your iPhone screen to a compatible Tesla vehicle browser through a local hotspot connection. View maps, websites, photos, and compatible apps.

Caster lets you display your iPhone or compatible iPad screen in the web browser of a compatible Tesla vehicle. It uses Personal Hotspot and a local network connection.

Caster provides view-only screen mirroring. The vehicle display cannot control your Apple device, interact with applications, or send commands to it. Caster does not pair with, control, modify, or access any vehicle systems or hardware.

LOCAL VPN CONNECTION

Caster uses Apple’s Network Extension packet-tunnel technology to create the local virtual address shown in the app. When the user taps Start VPN, requests to that address are routed through the packet tunnel, allowing the connected vehicle browser to receive the local screen-mirroring stream. The packet tunnel is a required part of Caster’s core screen-mirroring functionality.

Caster is not a consumer VPN or internet proxy. It does not connect to a remote VPN server, route general internet traffic, change your public IP address or location, bypass geographic or content limitations, or inspect, collect, sell, or transmit browsing data.

The mirroring stream remains local between the Apple device and the vehicle connected through Personal Hotspot. Caster does not upload the stream or transmit it to a remote server. Cellular data may still be used separately by apps, websites, or the vehicle browser when accessing internet content.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Turn on Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or compatible cellular iPad.
2. Connect the vehicle’s Wi-Fi to your Personal Hotspot.
3. Open Caster and tap Start VPN.
4. Open the vehicle browser and enter the local Caster address shown in the app.
5. Tap Start Broadcast and select Caster Broadcast.
6. The vehicle browser will display what is currently shown on your Apple device.

IPAD REQUIREMENTS

Using Caster through an iPad Personal Hotspot requires a cellular-capable iPad with an active cellular plan that supports Personal Hotspot. Wi-Fi-only iPads cannot create the Personal Hotspot required for this setup. Personal Hotspot availability is determined by the iPad model, carrier, and cellular plan.

CONTENT COMPATIBILITY

Caster mirrors what is displayed on your Apple device, but some apps and streaming services use Digital Rights Management (DRM) that prevents screen broadcasting. DRM-protected video may appear as a black screen or may not display at all. This is controlled by iOS, iPadOS, and the content provider, not Caster.

Caster cannot bypass DRM, screen-capture protections, subscriptions, geographic availability, or other content-provider requirements. Apps, websites, photos, maps, and videos that permit screen broadcasting can be mirrored normally.

VEHICLE COMPATIBILITY

Caster communicates only with the vehicle’s standard web browser through a local hotspot connection. It does not pair with, control, modify, or access the vehicle, its software, or its hardware. The vehicle display cannot control or interact with the mirrored Apple device.
