Plant water loss changes throughout the day with temperature, humidity, wind, solar energy, and rainfall. Different plants respond to the same atmosphere in different ways. A tomato and a rosemary plant should not be treated as though they have identical water-use patterns.
Terra combines local weather, modeling of evaporation and transpiration rates, and plant-specific profiles to estimate how much water outdoor plants lose to the atmosphere. Track modeled water reserve, explore how it may change over the next five days, and use the forecast as added context before deciding when to water.

BUILT AROUND THE WEATHER
Terra considers temperature, relative humidity, wind, cloud cover, precipitation, sun position, time of day, season, latitude, longitude, terrain elevation, sun exposure, and each plant’s crop coefficient.
Reference evapotranspiration is modeled with the FAO-56 Penman–Monteith framework, WeatherKit data, and modeled solar radiation. Plant-specific crop coefficients translate atmospheric demand into estimated plant water loss.
MODELED SOLAR ENERGY
Incoming solar radiation is modeled from sun position, location, date and time, terrain elevation, and cloud cover. The same value is used in the evapotranspiration calculation, displayed in the app, and synchronized to widgets.
A MODEL, NOT A SENSOR
Terra does not measure soil moisture.
Estimated Water Reserve is a meteorological and physics-based model, not a direct reading from your soil or plant. Use it alongside your own observation of the plant, soil, and growing environment.
Terra cannot account for every site-specific process, including runoff, canopy interception, deep drainage, container geometry, overhead shelter, infiltration, root restrictions, or water applied.
Use Terra as decision support, not as a substitute for checking your plants and soil.
