As you approach any of 21,027 recorded sites — a cemetery, a memorial, a trench, a crossroads, a farm — the app speaks aloud, telling you what happened at this exact place. Not a notification. A narration, in English, French, or German, depending on your device language.

If you have Heritage Compass installed on the same device with a GEDCOM family tree loaded, the apps share that data automatically. When you approach anywhere your ancestors fought, were injured, or died, Heritage Compass WW1 adds a personal layer — telling you who was there, when, and why it matters to your family. THE LAST POST If you are within 500 metres of the Menin Gate in Ypres between 19:25 and 20:05 local time, the app tells you that the Last Post ceremony begins shortly. That ceremony has taken place every evening since 1928, interrupted only by the German occupation of 1940 to 1944.
