Pianista: Piano Practice

Pianista 2.0 adds iPhone support, Bluetooth MIDI, the Mistakes Map, score browsing, and 31 languages. Requires a USB or Bluetooth MIDI keyboard; no on-screen piano.

Pianista is sheet-music-first piano practice for your own MusicXML and MIDI files. Import a score, connect a MIDI piano or keyboard, and play from engraved staff notation, not falling blocks. In Wait for Correct Note mode the cursor holds for the right note or chord; correct notes turn green and wrong notes are marked on the score.

A MIDI piano or keyboard is required, connected by USB or Bluetooth MIDI. Pianista has no on-screen keyboard, no demo mode, and does not play back the piece.

READ THE MUSIC Your score stays at the center of every session. When they are present in the score file, dynamics, slurs and phrasing are preserved, so you practice from notation that looks like the printed page.

IMPORT YOUR REPERTOIRE • Import .musicxml, .xml, .mxl or .mid files • Choose files from Files or iCloud Drive, or send them with AirDrop or the share sheet • Find pieces quickly with library search and sorting • Start with three bundled pieces: Moonlight Sonata, Ode to Joy and C Major Scale

PRACTICE YOUR WAY • Wait for Correct Note mode advances only after you play the expected note or chord • Flow mode moves at your chosen tempo with a count-in and metronome • Adjust tempo, metronome volume and Clicks per Whole Note for each piece • Auto Start begins the session when you play the notes at the cursor • Practice the right hand, left hand, both, or selected staves in multi-staff scores • Select a passage and loop it • Browse or scroll the score while stopped, then tap a bar or note to move the cursor

LEARN WHERE TO FOCUS The Mistakes Map lays your practice history over the score, so difficult bars and notes are easy to find. Color-blind-safe palettes and optional glyphs support Differentiate Without Color.

USB OR BLUETOOTH MIDI Connect by USB, or pair a Bluetooth LE MIDI piano from inside Pianista. Connections recover automatically after a drop.

IPHONE AND IPAD Use Pianista on iPad in any orientation, or on iPhone in landscape. The interface is localized into 31 languages.

FREE TO TRY, ONE-TIME UPGRADE Pianista includes five free imports per device. The one-time Pianista Premium purchase removes the import limit. No subscription.
