Pavement Patrol

Pavement Patrol is a field-ready inspection log for road inspectors, municipal workers, paving contractors and public works crews. Document defects in pavement, road markings, signs and roadside infrastructure with severity grading, dimensions, photos and full repair workflow tracking. No accounts, no subscriptions and no internet connection required.

Defect Logging supports twelve specialised categories grouped into four functional areas. Pavement defects include potholes, cracks, alligator cracking and rutting. Marking issues cover faded centerlines and edge lines. Sign problems span damaged panels and missing installations. Roadside conditions include debris, drainage issues, manhole defects and curb damage. Each defect carries its own colour-coded category, dedicated SF Symbol icon and contextual repair recommendation drawn from standard pavement preservation practices.

Severity Classification uses a four-tier scale calibrated to industry response windows. Critical defects must be addressed within twenty four hours. High severity items require attention within one week. Medium severity allows up to one month. Low severity has a three month response window. The app automatically flags overdue defects in the dashboard and defects list using these thresholds, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.

Workflow Management tracks each defect through five workflow states from initial report through scheduling, in progress repair work, fixed status and final closure. Status transitions are recorded with timestamps for scheduled and fixed dates, enabling accurate average repair time calculations. The status flow appears as horizontal scroll chips on the detail view, allowing one-tap status changes in the field.

Dimensional Documentation captures length, width and depth for every defect using configurable metric or imperial units. Area is calculated automatically and displayed throughout the app. Depth tracking uses a slider from zero to thirty centimetres, ideal for documenting pothole severity and rutting depth. All measurements feed into the statistics dashboard for cumulative repair area calculations.

Photo Capture integrates with the iOS Photos library through PhotosPicker, attaching images directly to defect records. Photos appear as the hero element on detail views with overlay badges showing severity, status and overdue flags. Replace or remove photos at any time during the defect lifecycle.

Patrol Routes group multiple defects into named inspection runs with start and end mileage, weather conditions, temperature, inspector name and patrol notes. View defect counts per route, distance covered and weather context. Five weather conditions supported with dedicated icons including clear, cloudy, rain, snow and fog.

Statistics Dashboard provides at a glance KPIs including total defect count, fixed rate percentage, open defect count, overdue defect count, average repair time in days, total repair area, total estimated open repair cost, distribution by status with horizontal bar chart, distribution by severity as colour-coded count cards, distribution by defect type with proportional bars, and top five hotspot roads ranked by defect count.

Field Reference is a built-in offline knowledge base with three reference tabs. Defect Types tab lists all twelve defect categories with category badges and recommended repair methods. Severity Guide tab explains response windows and provides field tips for prioritising on high-volume roads. Markings and Signs tab describes solid yellow, broken yellow, solid white, broken white and pedestrian crossing markings, plus a sign condition checklist covering reflectivity, post integrity, surface condition, sight lines and MUTCD mounting standards.
