Other gratitude journals have one big problem: you forget to open them. Social media apps don't have that problem. Gratitude Lock turns that around.
HOW IT WORKS
- Pick the apps to lock — Instagram, TikTok, X, Snapchat, YouTube, or whichever apps pull you in
- Choose the time your daily practice begins (most people pick morning)
- From that time, the apps you selected stay locked until you write a short gratitude entry
- Write at least one thing you're grateful for — this could be something or someone
- Your apps unlock for the rest of the day. Tomorrow, the lock returns
The first time you reach for your phone, you reach for gratitude instead.
WHY THE STRUCTURE
Gratitude Lock uses a research-backed two-part journal entry: an experience and a person. Each entry asks "why" — because positive psychology research shows specific, reflective gratitude produces measurably stronger effects on mood, sleep, and stress than general lists. Add anything else on your mind in the optional free-write space below.
You set the minimum word count yourself during onboarding. Want a quick five-word note? Fine. Want to commit to a deeper daily reflection? You can do that too. Adjustable anytime in settings.
FOR THE PERSON YOU'RE GRATEFUL FOR
The second entry is about a person — and you can write them a message right from the app. Gratitude Lock pre-fills a draft based on what you wrote, ready to copy and send. Research consistently shows that gratitude expressed to someone strengthens relationships more than gratitude kept private.
YOUR MEMORY STREAM
Every entry is saved to your private memory stream. Add a photo from your camera or library to anchor a moment in time. Scroll back on hard days. Watch your year of small good things accumulate.

Your entries are stored on your device. No account required. No email collected. We never see what you write. The Screen Time permission Gratitude Lock uses is Apple's own Family Controls API — Apple manages the lock, not us.
