Maranox is a marine chart app built for every boat on Irish waters — fishermen, cruising yachts, RIBs, kayakers, divers and sailing schools. It turns INFOMAR, the Irish state's twenty-year seabed survey, into offline charts on the phone already in your pocket.

WHAT YOU SEE

• INFOMAR bathymetry — depth and contour lines mapping 700,000 km² of Irish waters. The best marine data ever made for these coasts. • Folk sediment classification — see the ground under you at a glance: rock, coarse, mixed, sand, or mud. The difference between a good shot and a lost net. • 608 shipwrecks — every wreck in the Geological Survey Ireland catalogue, pinned by GPS, bundled offline. • Lighthouses, RNLI stations, the 12-nautical-mile limit, and OpenSeaMap buoys and marks. • Satellite and nautical chart layers when you want the bigger picture.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Record tracks — turn your phone into a breadcrumb log. Browse trips by week. • Drop marks — long-press anywhere for fishing spots, anchorages, dive sites, hazards. Categorise and find them again. • Plan routes — tap A, tap B. Maranox routes around land, shows distance and bearing. • Man Overboard — long-press MOB drops a GPS pin you can steer back to in seconds. • Log catches — species, weight, location. Build a picture of your season. • Night mode — dark charts that protect your night vision in the wheelhouse.

WHY IT'S OFFLINE

Download the Irish charts once on Wi-Fi. At sea, everything loads from your phone — no signal, no buffering, no monthly bill. Mount a tablet in the wheelhouse and you've got chart detail that doesn't care whether you have coverage.

WHO BUILT IT

Brian and Donncha — two Irish boaters who wanted the charts they use on the water to be as good as the data the state already paid for. Maranox uses public INFOMAR data under Creative Commons licence (Geological Survey Ireland & Marine Institute, CC BY 4.0).

A NOTE ON SAFETY

Maranox is a planning and situational-awareness tool — not a certified navigation system. Keep your paper charts, VHF and all proper safety kit on board.
