Features & Capabilities

Type elevations on a 2x2 to 6x6 grid, read total cut, fill and net volume instantly. Four Corners method. Offline, no subscription.

Need quick earthwork volumes for a bid but do not have time for full survey software? Cut & Fill Volume Calc turns a grid of elevations into cut and fill quantities. Type the numbers, read the cubic yards.

Set your grid size and point spacing, then enter the existing ground elevation and the design elevation at every grid point. There is no calculate button — the totals update on every keystroke.

WHAT IT CALCULATES:

  • Total cut volume across the site
  • Total fill volume across the site
  • Net volume (total cut minus total fill, so a positive number means more cut than fill)

That is the whole output: three site-wide totals, in cubic yards on Imperial or cubic meters on Metric.

HOW IT WORKS: Each cell is bounded by four grid points. The app averages the four existing elevations and the four design elevations, takes the difference, and multiplies by the cell area (Spacing X times Spacing Y). Cells averaging above design grade count as cut, cells below count as fill. That is the standard Four Corners grid method, applied across the grid and summed.

KEY FEATURES:

  • Four Corners averaging across the grid
  • Adjustable grid, 2x2 up to 6x6 points (1 to 25 cells)
  • Editable point spacing in X and Y, so rectangular cells are fine
  • A design elevation at every point, not one flat pad number, so sloped and stepped design grades work
  • Imperial (ft / cu yd) and Metric (m / cu m). Imperial converts cubic feet to cubic yards for you
  • Your unit choice is remembered between launches
  • Decimal keypad with a Done key on every field
  • Instant results as you type
  • The calculator works completely offline. No account, no login, nothing you type leaves your device
  • One-time $4.99 purchase. No subscription, no in-app purchases

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Fill in every elevation. A cell is only counted when all eight of its corner values are present, so a blank field quietly leaves that cell out of the totals.
  • Switching between Imperial and Metric reloads the default starting values rather than converting what you have already typed.
  • Set your grid size before you type. Changing the row or column count after entering elevations re-flows the values you already entered.
  • The keypad has no minus key, so elevations below zero cannot be entered. Shift your datum if you are working below it.

The app includes a More Pro Tools card that links out to our other apps on the App Store. Nothing in the calculator needs it, and nothing needs a connection.

BUILT FOR THE JOB SITE: Whether you are an excavation contractor, civil engineer, or site superintendent, this is the fast number off a grid of elevations you already have — a bid takeoff, a sanity check on somebody else's quantity, or a rough cut/fill balance before the dirt moves.

It is a focused grid calculator, not a survey package. Elevations are typed in by hand. There is no file import, no drawing, no point capture, and no export — just the grid, the method, and the three totals.
