DBR Rater - the mobile app for the platform: behavior-rating.app

DBR Rater is the mobile companion app to the research platform behavior-rating.app and is designed for individuals conducting behavior ratings as part of scientific studies. While researchers plan and manage their single-case studies centrally via the platform, the app enables fast, structured, and location-independent data collection directly in everyday contexts. At its core is the method of Direct Behavior Rating (DBR), a scientifically grounded approach for the systematic assessment of behavior. Observers repeatedly and promptly rate predefined target behaviors on a scale, generating valid longitudinal data—without the need for paper forms or external spreadsheet tools.

The app is intentionally designed for low-threshold use: after scanning a QR code provided in the invitation, users are instantly logged in and can view all assigned tasks for the current day. Ratings are completed באמצעות intuitive sliders, optionally supplemented with brief notes, and can be finalized within seconds—even during short time windows, such as between lessons. The app consolidates all relevant information in a clear interface and displays only the cases assigned to the respective user.

Functionally, DBR Rater provides a streamlined structure focused entirely on the data collection process. Tasks are automatically derived from the study design and displayed at the appropriate time. Push notifications reliably remind users of upcoming or overdue ratings, with adjustable intensity levels and customizable settings. The app remains fully functional even with unstable internet connections: all entries are stored locally and automatically synchronized once connectivity is restored. In addition, users can participate in multiple studies simultaneously and switch seamlessly between them.

The primary target groups include teachers, therapeutic professionals, and educational or research staff who regularly document behavioral observations within intervention or single-case study designs. The app is deliberately conceived as part of a larger ecosystem: study planning—including case creation, definition of target behaviors, observer invitation, data analysis, and export—is handled via the central platform behavior-rating.app, while DBR Rater supports the operational side of data collection in real-world settings.

A strong emphasis is also placed on data protection. All data are transmitted in encrypted form and processed in compliance with GDPR. Users have access only to the cases assigned to them and to their own ratings, while login credentials are securely stored on the respective device.
