TouchPlot is an iOS app that generates infographics based on recorded touch interaction data.
By visualizing tactile information produced through interactions with touch-device interfaces, it creates data for observing the media environments that shape our unconscious bodily gestures.
At the same time, it interprets the traces of our everyday smartphone operations as generative drawing works.
In this work, the interface is presented from both the perspective of the body and that of the information system.
TouchPlot — Record and Visualize Web Touch Traces
Turn your finger movements into data.
TouchPlot is an iOS app that records and visualizes touch strokes in real time while you freely interact with web pages.
It captures every finger movement on the screen—scrolls, taps, swipes, and more—down to the millisecond, without interfering with normal page operation.
Key Features
Touch Tracking
Start recording with a single tap of the REC button while browsing any web page.
Using a passive tracking method that does not disrupt page behavior, TouchPlot accurately captures all touch strokes.
You can monitor the number of strokes and points in real time.
SVG Visualization
Instantly generate elegant SVG graphics from recorded touch traces.
Start points, end points, and movement paths are color-coded, making complex gesture patterns easy to understand at a glance.
Flexible Export
Export three types of SVG layouts:
visualization only (A4 portrait)
information panel only (A4 portrait)
combined layout with both visualization and panel (A3 landscape)
TouchPlot also supports direct output for plotters.
Touch data can be exported as JSON for further analysis in external tools.
Session Management
Generated graphics are automatically saved within the app.
Saved sessions are displayed in a carousel view, where the visualization, information panel, and code view can autoplay every 10 seconds.
You can revisit and share them at any time.
Customization
Freely customize the title (Japanese or English), user name, and the three colors used for touch traces (start point, end point, and line color).
Session information such as URL, device data, and recording duration is automatically embedded into the SVG.
