DHARMA - NDSA

The DHARMA app is a comprehensive digital platform developed to strengthen dam safety management in India by enabling real-time, field-based monitoring, inspection, and reporting of Specified Dams. The application functions as an integral extension of the DHARMA web portal and is designed to operate in seamless synchronisation with the central DHARMA back-end system, ensuring consistency, reliability, and timeliness of dam safety data across the country.

The application provides access to critical Engineering, hydro-logical, and structural data related to Specified Dams, including inflow design flood, area–elevation–capacity curves, spillway characteristics, and project features. Such non-editable reference data is directly fetched from the DHARMA web portal and remains protected from unauthorised modification. Editable data—such as inspection observations, incidents, failures, and O&M records—can be created or updated through the application strictly as per the role-based authorisation framework.

To address connectivity challenges in remote dam locations, the DHARMA supports offline functionality and local data storage, allowing users to record inspections and capture data even in the absence of Internet connectivity. Once network access is restored, the system ensures seamless and automatic synchronisation of locally stored data with the DHARMA back-end and web portal, preventing data loss and duplication.

The application is being developed to ensure wide accessibility and uniform usage across agencies and states. An intuitive dashboard System provide real-time insights into inspection status, dam safety indicators, and compliance levels, supporting effective monitoring and governance.

Overall, the DHARMA plays a crucial role in streamlining dam inspections, improving data accuracy, strengthening emergency preparedness, and enhancing coordination between field-level functionaries and central authorities.
