Hanja Time!

It's Hanja Timeeeeeee

Over half of all Korean words are based on Hanja, or Chinese characters. As you study Korean, you'll learn tons of them.

For each new Hanja-based Korean word you learn, there's probably another Korean word you already know which has the same Hanja!

Making this mental connection to a Korean word with the same root is a very helpful mnemonic. It strengthens your memory of the existing word and makes you more likely to remember the new word.

Here's just a few examples:

집중: Focus 애착: Attachment 집착: Obsession

음악: Music 파도: Wave 음파: Sound wave

엄격: Strict 선택: Select 엄선: Curate
