Features & Capabilities

Local control for legacy WeMo discover, toggle, and provision Wi‑Fi

Bit Switch provides fast, private, and reliable local control for legacy WeMo devices — no cloud required. Discover devices on your local network, control switches and dimmers, view energy usage from Insight plugs, receive motion sensor state, and provision Wi‑Fi securely using AES-encrypted credentials for device setup.

Full device support: switches, dimmers, light switches, Insight energy plugs, motion sensors, outdoor plugs, Maker devices, and bridges. Robust discovery: SSDP/UPnP discovery with M‑SEARCH reliable on-network detection. Secure provisioning: built-in Wi‑Fi setup with AES-128-CBC password encryption to keep credentials private during device configuration. Reliable control: improved GetBinaryState / SetBinaryState handling with clear status and error reporting. Usability: streamlined Wi‑Fi setup dialog, password visibility toggle, and status indicators for connection and handshake. Appearance: supports dark mode and refined themes for a modern, readable UI.

Why Bit Switch

Local-first: device discovery and control happen on your network — no cloud required or used for device control. Privacy-focused: provisioning uses AES encryption; credentials are never sent to external services. Practical: works with a wide range of legacy Belkin WeMo hardware still in the wild.

What's New

Improved SSDP/UPnP discovery for more reliable on-network detection. Enhanced Wi‑Fi provisioning flow with AES-128-CBC encryption of passwords. UI improvements: clearer Wi‑Fi setup flow, better error messages, and password visibility toggle. Better state handling for GetBinaryState / SetBinaryState calls. Dark mode and theme refinements.

Compatibility & Privacy

Devices and phone must be on the same Wi‑Fi network. Router must allow UDP multicast for SSDP discovery. Wi‑Fi scanning requires location permission; permissions are requested at runtime and used only for scanning and provisioning. No cloud account required; local network control only. See our privacy policy on the support site for details.

Sure devices can be and are discovered but it stops there. Can’t set timers to turn on or off and no other features are available. When Apple HomeKit makes it so easy to discover and add new devices, what’s the need for these apps that don’t provide any added functionality?! Not worth wasting time.

Really appreciate you providing this app to try and keep Wemo products from becoming useless in the smart environment. Had a couple improvement thoughts on the app 1. Anyway to make it not forget items it has found when refreshing? During one refresh it may just find one of my Wemo devices and the next it may find more, but not the first one. 2. Any skill in the works to make the devices then work with Alexa to bring back the automation Belkin promised when devices were bought but has since removed?
