Now scanning loose fish at the seafood counter Seafood sold from a full-service case has no package to scan. FAT reads the USDA AMS counter placard instead — the sign that discloses species, country of origin, and wild vs. farm-raised. A visual cross-check confirms the species identification against the FDA Seafood List, which now covers more than 110 species.

Chicken age at slaughter The class name on a chicken label — Broiler, Fryer, Roaster, Cornish Game Hen, Capon, Stewing Hen — is a federal standard of identity (9 CFR 381.170) that sets a legal ceiling on the bird's age. FAT reads the class name, shows what the ceiling means, and notes that the industry average for commercial broilers is 47 days — well under the 70-day legal limit.
