Art of Virtue Tracker

Benjamin Franklin says in his autobiography that he intended to write a book called the Art of Virtue. In it, he would discuss virtues and self-improvement. He never completed The Art of Virtue, but he did discuss it in his autobiography along with one of his methods of self-improvement.

Dr. Franklin made himself a notebook and created a grid on each page that listed virtues and days of the week. In each cell in the table, he would put a dot in an area where he felt he did not measure up that day, and he could review his progress.

This app offers you the ability to do something similar, but with a few changes.

Instead of putting a mark where you have failed, you should instead place a checkmark in a particular cell by tapping it to indicate you did practice that virtue on a day.

You can also enter a brief note on each cell by tapping and holding so you can record particular triumphs for a virtue on any given day.

You can tap on each virtue name to see Dr. Franklin’s description of the virtue as well as a little musing on what it means in the 21st century.

You can look back on previous weeks to see how you’ve done. If you tap the Progress button, you can see different reviews of your progress and a summary of the notes you’ve left for various virtues.
