User Reviews

Overall, users praise Gym Geek Calorie Counter for solid calorie tracking and weight-loss support, aided by AI-powered food search and a straightforward interface. However, recurring issues include an incomplete food database and macro tracking limitations, unreliable barcode scanning, and concerns about price relative to features. Users also report UX friction and inconsistent AI results, with several asking for cross-device syncing (Apple Health, favorites).
Pros
  • Strong calorie tracking and weight loss support
  • AI-powered food search/logging
  • Simple, user-friendly interface with minimal ads
  • Metabolic-rate based calorie/macro guidance
Cons
  • Poor/limited food database and macro input: unable to find many foods or macros; saving meals not intuitive
  • Barcode scanning reliability and missing items: scans often fail and many products aren’t found
  • High price / perceived poor value: frequent complaints about cost
  • UX friction and missing integrations: not user-friendly, time-consuming, and requests for cross-device syncing (Apple Health, favorites)
  • AI features unreliable or not consistently helpful

Wish the meals would show total amount of calories and macros per meal type instead of the total for the day only. Also, ingredients hard to find sometimes. Database lacking. But the metabolic tool to phase in and adapt to weight loss goals is very useful.

It would be nice if this app would sync with my iPad, haver favorites capabilities and be able to scan my plate of food and give the calorie count. Also, there are too many items that the bar code scan is missing. It would be nice if we could add a bar scan code too our account once it's used and three product is not found.
