Fight the War for Mythic Europe in this classic dice & battle fantasy boardgame in online or local play.

Dragons of 1066 is a classic, turn-based fantasy board game for 2-4 players in online or local play. Gather your friends and fight The War for Mythic Europe in real-time or asynchronous battle. Plan your strategy, recruit your armies, risk it all in a throw of the dice for victory.

In Dragons of 1066 each player controls one of four warring kingdoms of Mythic Europe.

The game begins with pieces representing armies of legions, knights, warbeasts, kraken, galleons, eagles and dragons -- all arrayed on the board as they were in the year 1066 of the Age of Dragons.

Each turn, you move your pieces to create battles, then resolve those battles by rolling dice. Then end your turn by repositioning your remaining pieces and recruiting new ones.

To win, you and your ally must work together to capture all four great Fortresses on the board. (In a two player game, one player plays both sides of the alliance.)

The rules of Dragons of 1066 are straightforward, but take some effort to learn. Once you have mastered the rules, you will be able to enjoy the game for years to come.

This digital version of the game is beautifully illustrated by Dave Montes. It includes an easy way to connect with friends to play online.

Dragons of 1066 is cross-play enabled, and you can play with friends on mobile and PC platforms.

True Roll - Rolling dice is important in Dragons of 1066, and this digital version employs the True Roll dice system. True Roll lets you, not the computer, roll the dice, generating fair results through your own throwing action, just as you would when playing the box game. Learn more about the True Roll system at the Huge Workshop website.

The game is free to try with all its features for 7 days. If you enjoy Dragons of 1066, and want to own this digital version, we’ll provide a way when the trial period is over. If you choose not, you can continue to play the game with advertisements for other products occasionally interleaved.

I love the art for the game and the mechanics, it is a very fun game to play with others and the best part is that it’s digital, so you don’t have to get a bunch of pieces out. (Plus, it feels like it doesn’t take as long Risk takes……..😟)

This game does a great job of emulating what it’s like to play a board game. The rules and strategies are very similar to Risk, but with the addition of having to learn the mechanics of naval and air units. At this point, there are no notifications integrated with iOS, so you have to manually notify the next player when it’s their turn if you’re playing asynchronously. This seems to work OK if you have a group chat going with the other players. In fact, it’s a great addition to an already established group chat if you need an activity to stoke the conversation.

Revised review after a few dozen more games: Great classic style boardgame. No “victory points” or obscure win conditions, just a board you can look at and tell who’s winning. I will say there’s not enough incentive to buy air units in the game. I’m not really sure how to solve this. One possibility is making Kraken d12 so that dragons and eagles have more value against navies. I really want to have fun with dragons but can’t find a reason to do it. Eagles are even worse. Britain is an awkward territory despite being the namesake of the game. Other than that this is a very deep game that combines great elements from Risk, Axis and Allies, and chess.
