CalmiFy - Stress User Study

CalmiFy: Streamline data collection for stress and alcohol craving studies with CalmiFy.

Overview: CalmiFy is a research-focused app designed to facilitate user studies on stress monitoring, emotional states, and alcohol cravings. The app collects user responses through structured daily surveys to support scientific investigations that aim to identify features of music selections that are most effective in reducing momentary stress in the real-world.

Functionality: The app consists of four daily surveys:

Early Morning Survey: Assesses sleep quality, emotional states, alcohol cravings, and other related experiences during the night. Midday Surveys (2 per day): Captures emotional states, alcohol cravings, and stressful events since the last survey. Allows users to provide details about stress triggers and coping mechanisms. End-of-Day Survey: Reflects on the user’s overall day, covering emotional states, alcohol cravings, and notable stress-related experiences.

Key Features: Various Question Formats: The surveys include multiple-choice questions, Likert scales, and open-ended responses for comprehensive data capture. Stress Event Logging: Users can log stress events, describe stress triggers, and provide details on how they coped with the stress, including music listening and other strategies.

Data Security: CalmiFy is designed to meet rigorous privacy and confidentiality standards. User data is de-identified and securely stored on a server and accessible only to authorized researchers for the purposes of the study.

Data Retention Identifiable data that links data collected from the CalmiFy study with participants’ contact information will be securely retained by the research team for 3 years and then destroyed using sanitation methods to the level of cleaning per National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-88SP.

Intended Use:

CalmiFy is intended for use in clinical or academic research settings. The app provides researchers with an effective tool for conducting longitudinal studies on stress, emotions, and alcohol cravings, offering insights into behavioral patterns and intervention strategies.

Compliance and Review Notes: CalmiFy does not include any features unrelated to its core research focus. All features and data collection mechanisms are aligned with ethical guidelines for research applications. The CalmiFy study has received approval from the Washington State University Institutional Research Board (WSU IRB # 20612)
